Teacher: Petra Nooijen

My name is Petra Nooijen and I am teaching vinyasa flow. When I took my first yoga class, I knew this is something I want to do the rest of my life. I started the Asthanga teacher training in India in 2002. From there I traveled a lot to explore different styles of yoga and teachers. Every year I went back to the Jivamukti school in New York from David and Sharon Gannon. But my favorite teacher is Rusty Wells from San Francisco. I assist him several times and I went straight into Bakti yoga!! I knew this is what I truly loved. A vinyasa flow what brings love, devotion, joy and freedom. If you want to give it a try, I’ll meet you on the mat!!

.

Vinyasa yoga

This form is a dynamic form of yoga and currently the most common style of yoga. Series of asanas (postures) are performed in a continuous flow to the rhythm of the breath. Dynamic, powerful and sometimes challenging. The movements flow into each other. The synchronisation of breath and movement is characteristic of this yoga form, and creates a flow. Thus, your yoga practice also becomes a meditation in movement. You learn to find relaxation in your exertion and to move from a powerful base.

Teacher: Jip Zewald

My name is Jip, 38 years old and living in beautiful Nijmegen for quite some time. At 23, I got in touch with wave surfing by participating in a surf camp in France. From then on, I was sold on the addictive energy of the waves. The ultimate feeling of freedom, being conscious in the moment and pure enjoyment of the element water.

Besides surfing, I have been taking yoga classes with Petra for over 8 years. Again, I got totally addicted to this and I don’t want to live without it anymore. During my surf camps, yoga was occasionally included, but unfortunately not much was done with it. This is because I firmly believe in the combination of surfing and yoga. Not only because of the fact that it is good for your muscles, but especially the deeper connection that can bring so much more. Everyone dares to be themselves slowly on the yoga mat and face their fears or thoughts. The same can be done with surfing! Yes, you can think of it as playing in the water, but it is so much more. In the waves, you also encounter yourself and then what do you do? Do you get out, do you make excuses to stop or do you dare to make yourself aware of what is happening and deal with it. For me, this is what surfing is all about, among other things. I hope I can get you excited with the surf virus and let yourself experience the feeling of being free in the waves.

Hope to see you at one of our yoga/surf retreats!
